CARLES CROSAS ARMENGOL
 

Carles Crosas is a PhD Architect and Lecturer (ETSA Barcelona). He has been teaching Urbanism at the Barcelona School of Architecture since 2001 and has been invited to universities in Europe, America and Asia. Former collaborator and assistant teacher to Professor Manuel de Solà-Morales, he presented his PhD dissertation on the urban transformation of La Habana (2009) after a Pre-doctoral Fellowship UPC 2001-04. He is a researcher at the Barcelona Laboratory of Urbanism where he is coordinator and participant in various international projects dealing with ecology and metabolism, collective urban spaces and centralities, urban grid transformation and integrative teaching of architecture and urbanism. He is currently Head of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning –UPC and he has also been ETSAB ViceDean for International Relations (2016-17).

Concurrently, he’s been developing professional works together with other architects and professors from a platform of urbanism and architecture since 2003: diverse territorial plans and studies in Barcelona Region; holistic master plans for small towns, detailed plans for new mixed-use areas (housing, offices and facilities), retrofitting plans for old tissues and infrastructure, design of mixed-use and sportive facilities and public space and national and international ideas competitions.

Halfway between practice and academia, works, research and reflections have been published in books and magazines, on diverse aspects of urbanism, especially on infrastructure, public space and urban transformations.
